The Four Worlds

Atziluth — the Archetypal World

The King scale belongs to Atziluth, the Archetypal World of emanation; this lens places Kether within it.

Part of The Four Worlds.

In this pattern

Three of the four worlds are three verbs in a single verse of Isaiah. Atzilut is not among them. Its name comes from Numbers 11:17, where God tells Moses he will take of the spirit that is on him and give it to the seventy elders, and Cordovero derives the word from that verse directly.

Emanation in this sense costs the source nothing; Moses is no poorer for what is taken from him. So Atzilut is spoken of as still within the divine, where the three worlds below it are spoken of as made.

World and hierarchy

The Archetypal World of emanation, represented in this lens by Kether. Divine Names are its characteristic sephirothic manifestation.

This is the one-Tree banding used by the Hermetic lens. Mathers also records a complete ten-sephirah Tree within each World; the two models answer different study questions.

Scriptural derivation

Numbers 11:17

וְאָצַלְתִּי — NOT one of Isaiah's three. Cordovero derives the name from a different verse in a different book, and says so in as many words: 'Atzilut is derived from the language of (Numbers 11:17) — and I will take of the spirit.' The verse is God telling Moses he will take of the spirit that is on him and put it on the seventy elders, and the point of the word is that the taking leaves the source undiminished. Emanation is neither manufacture nor separation, which is why this world is spoken of as still within the divine while the three below it are spoken of as made.
