The sky as a body stretched above the earth. She swallows the sun each evening and gives birth to it each dawn, which is painted on coffin lids so that the dead lie inside her.

Nut in later esoteric traditions

She is the centre of Thelema, under the name Nuit, and the route by which she got there runs through one object. On the Stele of Revealing she arches over the scene as the celestial body enclosing and renewing it; Crowley's Liber AL vel Legis (1904) opens with her and makes her infinite space and the stars, the first of its three deities and the one the other two are defined against. Nuit develops the Egyptian sky goddess who swallows the sun at dusk and bears it at dawn into a principle of infinite space. That reading begins in 1904 and has sustained Thelemic devotion and practice ever since.
