An English translation of Martensen's theological study of Jacob Böhme, combining a biography with an extended account of his theosophy.
In ‘Böhme and Theosophy’ (pp. 17–25), Martensen distinguishes theosophy from practical mysticism. He describes it as a sacred philosophy of nature and history that reads Christianity in cosmic terms, while tying Böhme's speculation to Scripture and his Lutheran confession. This is a nineteenth-century theological interpretation, not a current scholarly consensus.
